From September 9 to 19, 2025 Reseau des Femmes Oeuvrant pour le Developpement Rural received Mr. Alexis Demers the representatives of Global Affairs Canada (GAC), Ms. Caroline Drolet and Ms. Denise Mutarambirwa representing L’AMIE. The visit was organised in the framework of conduct. The mission aimed to assess the progress and impact of the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SDSR-Rwanda) project, implemented by the Réseau des Femmes Oeuvrant pour le Développement Rural in partnership with AMIE, with funding from the Government of Canada.
The mission began with the visit to Karame Specialized Clinic, a key achievement of the SDSR-Rwanda project. The delegation toured the clinic’s facilities and received updates on the development of various specialized health services provided under the initiative. In addition to the clinic, the delegation also visited several project sites to observe the services being delivered and the equipment provided by Global Affaires Canada. These visits served to highlight both achievements and areas for continued collaboration.
The first day concluded with a meeting with the SDSR-Rwanda project coordination committee, offering an opportunity to discuss strategic direction, implementation challenges, and community impact.
Community Engagement and Inauguration Ceremony
The delegation held a meeting with the SDSR-Rwanda project management committee and took part in a community awareness session led by a peer educator in the Kacyiru sector. These sessions are part of the project’s grassroots outreach strategy, focusing on increasing knowledge and access to sexual and reproductive health services in underserved communities.
Before concluding their mission, the delegation also engaged with the project’s peer educators and held discussions with the project’s legal consultant, Me Rose Mukantabana, on the legal rights framework surrounding sexual and reproductive health in Rwanda.
The mission was concluded by the inauguration of the Karame Specialized Clinic, a significant milestone for the SDSR-Rwanda project. The clinic is expected to play a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive and accessible sexual and reproductive health services to local communities.

This monitoring mission underscores Canada’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality and enhancing health outcomes through targeted development partnerships. The SDSR-Rwanda project, through its holistic approach of Karame Specialized clinical services to legal support and community outreach is contributing to lasting positive change in the lives of women and girls in Rwanda.
