From 22 to 24 January 2025, Peer educators and staff of the SDSR-Rwanda project participated in the workshop on mental health organized by the clinical psychologist of the SDSR-Rwanda project in the framework of equipping skills and methodologies for Karame specialized clinic program of mental health and Counselling.
The workshop focused on equipping the team with essential skills for identifying mental health issues and supporting clients through the healing process and fostering a supportive environment within their communities.
Through interactive learning and group discussions, participants gained valuable insights into the complexities of mental health and learned practical procedures to offer support to those in need.
“These workshops have been a transformative experience for us,” said one of peer educators. “We’ve learned how to identify mental health challenges more effectively and provide compassionate, informed support. This will make a huge difference in our communities.”
The exchange between participants was a cornerstone of the workshops. By sharing personal experiences and knowledge, the two groups were able to expand their understanding on mental health from various perspectives, creating a rich environment for mutual learning. This collaborative approach reinforced the importance of collective impact in tackling mental health issues, particularly in communities where resources are often limited.

Mental health remains a critical concern in many regions, and initiatives like these play a crucial role in raising awareness and creating systems of support. By equipping peer educators with the tools and knowledge needed to address mental health concerns, the SDSR-Rwanda project is making significant strides toward building a more resilient and compassionate community.
The workshops not only helped participants better understand mental health but also fostered a sense of solidarity and shared responsibility. Through open dialogue and skill-building, they are now better prepared to provide mental health support within their communities, creating a ripple effect of care, empathy, and awareness.
As the SDSR-Rwanda project continues its work, these workshops serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration, education, and support in the ongoing effort to improve mental health outcomes and build stronger, healthier communities.
